Beyond WCG: What’s next in 2007?

With the World Cyber Games 2007 Singapore and Asian Championship over and done with, the e-sports scene in Singapore seems to be winding down. Or is it? GameSync takes a quick look at the tail end of 2007 and finds that there’s still plenty to look forward to.

The Games Convention Asia 2007 takes place between 6 and 9 September 2007, and is shaping up to be one of the biggest events on the calendar for Singapore gaming.

Game publishers from all over the world will be showing off their latest and greatest game development and technology to the public on the PC, console and mobile platforms.

There will also be a number of cyber games competitions planned. The game lineup is likely to consist of brand new titles mixed with competition staples. With over 1,500 gamers from around the region expected to take part, the competitions looks set to dwarf even the recently concluded WCG.

While WCG has already concluded for most of Singapore, the Compaq-AMD Pro Gaming League is only halfway through its current year.

Since its inception in 2006, the CAPL has quickly grown to become the standard by which DotA Allstars teams are judged.

Judging from last year’s schedules, the Autumn Season is likely to be held in October.

Games Xtreme League 2007 Season 02

One of the longest running e-sports tournaments in Singapore, the Games Xtreme League will continue in the later half of the year with the 2007 Season 02.

With previous years serving as a guide, registrations are likely to begin in early October.

World GameMaster Tournament

UPDATE: Bad news for CS and WC3 fans and gamers, both games are not included as official games for WGT.SG 07.

The World GameMaster Tournament 2007 represents one of the last standalone events for the competitive Counter-Strike 1.6 and Warcraft III communities.

In addition to e-sports staples Counter-Strike 1.6 and Warcraft III, Quake 4 joins the official game lineup for this year’s edition of WGT. It remains to be seen if DotA Allstars or Command & Conquer 3, two of the more popular games in Singapore at the moment, will be included as unofficial games.

While the date for WGT.SG has not been finalized, inside sources have indicated a November to December time frame for the competition.
