Confirming months of speculation and rumour, the Compaq AMD Pro-gaming League has dropped Counter-Strike 1.6 and Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne from the game lineup of the 2007/08 league season, effective from the upcoming Spring Season.

The change in the game lineup was made known in a statement announcing the opening of registration for the CAPL 2007/08 Spring Season.

Previously, sources from within Rapture Gaming, the organizer of CAPL, have said that a change in game lineup was possible due to poor attendance for the CS 1.6 division, while the Warcraft III division faced problems due to sponsor concerns over only reaching out to the exact same crowd of people over the 2006/07 season.

The dropping of CS 1.6 and Warcraft III from CAPL comes as a major blow to the respective communities, who now only have the Games Xtreme League and the World Cyber Games as major local competitions to look forward to.
