Singapore put up a inspiring performance to come back from one game down and secured a draw against USA in the first group stage round of the Meet Your Makers Prime Nations international DotA Allstars tournament.

Team USA featured an all-star line up consisting mainly of players from professional e-sports teams Pandemic and Check-Six. Team Singapore comprised mainly of players from Micronology and Zenith, widely considered to be the top teams in the Singapore competitive circuit at the moment.

In the first game, Singapore drafted Bristleback, Keeper of the Light, Omniknight, Pugna and Tinker. USA took Beastmaster, Medusa, Shadow Priest, Tormented Soul and Queen of Pain.

According to a report by USA team leader Wedge on the DotA Allstars forums, USA “established map control and hero kill dominance fairly early” in the first round.

However, Singapore managed to destroy USA’s middle rax as USA forgot to carry town portal scrolls to quickly get back to their base to defend.

USA initiated and won major engagements “easily” once all their heroes were farmed and took down Singapore’s top and bottom rax. At this point, team SG conceded defeat.

In the second game, Singapore drafted Enigma, Lich, Omniknight, Razor and Rogue Knight, while USA went for Beastmaster, Bristleback, Shadow Fiend, Slayer (Lina Inverse) and Tormented Soul.

Singapore came back strongly from the defeat in the previous game to overcome USA and draw the first round of the group stage.

Wedge attributed their loss in the second game to the laggy conditions team USA was forced to play in.

“It was apparent less than a minute into the game that everyone on our team had somewhere between 1.5 to 2 second delay on all actions with frequent spikes,” he wrote. “Once team fights started happening, the game ended as Razor just had to attack move and he would kill us all during the 10 second spikes that ensued.”

Wedge felt that the lag did not change the fact that team SG played well, however. “Singapore did a good job of getting Razor farmed and they played very carefully, preventing ganks on most of their heroes,” Wedge reported. “Singapore played well and had an interesting and innovative strategy.”

Teammate Yoda agreed with Wedge’s analysis and praised team SG, “GG and new respect for SG for firstpicking omni(knight), making us laugh, then pwning us.”

Malaysia are on top of the group table after their win over the Czech Republic. Singapore will face Korea in the next round of the MYM Prime Nations group stage.
