Wilson "Tetra" Chia made history early this morning (Singapore time) as he defeated "Offbeat Ninja" in the finals of the Championship Gaming Series Dead or Alive 4 Individual World Championship to claim the top spot and US$5,000 (S$7,200) in cash.
Although Tetra took an early 2-0 lead, he suddenly found the tables turned on himself when Offbeat Ninja took the next three sets to make the score 2-3. However, Tetra managed to reverse the situation, coming from behind to dominate Offbeat Ninja with three wins in a row, taking the match and the World Champion title 5-3.
While the North American and European media portray Tetra’s win over favourite Offbeat Ninja as a major upset, this is no fluke win but the result of years of training and experience. Tetra has participated in competitive DoA at the highest leve and is a World Cyber Games 2005 Silver Medal holder. This year, he won the WCG Asian Championship Silver Medal.
Tetra’s Individual World Championship title makes him the only CGS Individual World Champion not to come from an American franchise.
