WCG SAFRA League TF2, L4D format changed

The format and schedule for the World Cyber Games 2009 Singapore Championship SAFRA League has been updated, with Team Fortress 2 changed to a double elimination format and a round robin stage added to Left 4 Dead.

No reasons were given for the changes in the announcement on the WCG Singapore website, but poor signups probably played a role. Only six teams signed up for TF2 and only five teams are participating in the L4D tournament.

GameSync understands that popular demand from the community might also have resulted in the changes, at least in the case of TF2. One of the members from team 2EZ apparently emailed the organizers to request a double elimination format since there were so few teams participating anyway.

The WCG SAFRA League will be held this Saturday and Sunday at the Game Haven cyber cafe.

Only 5 teams for L4D?? WHAT YOU SAY. That’s quite a poor response, considering that the GWSG and Zombie Mania events had like 20 teams participating.

The question is, why are you and A4D not taking part? lol.

Blame Safra for asking people to join Game Haven first before they can participate. Retarded really.

I dun think thats the main reason why no one participate.
Maybe the hype of the game died down after the previous competitions?, maybe the previous participated teams found some other games to play?

I beg to differ rat … it’s the hassle of running all over the place from boat quay to bishan to wherever just for the stupid game haven registration ..

at least 3 l4d teams aren’t going for the Safra one because of this ..

and at least 2 tf2 teams aren’t either for the same reason ..

clark quay mrt to serangoon mrt via NEL -> 6 stops (roughly 10 – 15 mins)
serangoon mrt to bishan mrt via Circle Line -> 3 stops (less than 10 mins?)

    Total around 9 stops?

Anyway, i think game haven is located at the centre, one stop away from dhouby ghaut. I think people travel further away to participate for events before.

Game Haven is near Central actually. North Bridge road there if I recall. Its actually SAFRA Town. But still, retarded venue, retarded registration reasons.

  • Matafleur

Game Haven IS part-owned by SAFRA, so I would see why they’d want to you register a SAFRA membership before being able to participate in the tournament.

Considering that the Open Category tournament at the Singapore National Finals is going to be either only $5 per person or free entry though, I can appreciate why people aren’t biting with the SAFRA League.

Well… my team members have had insufficient time to train these past few weeks. And we are still looking for a permanent 4th member to replace Whitesky. wH, Vertex and CS 1.6 are taking part leh. The top 3 teams from GWSG. Pretty strong opposition.

    @ Rat & Mata,

I guess we’re all just a bunch of lazy singaporeans. I know my TF2 team and I are. We’re just heading straight to the national finals.

AFAIK You will just be seeded into the quarter finals of the nationals, which is just like winning your first match when you enter the regular way.

And in any case, it’s not like we’ve never scrimmed whoever went for the SAFRA competition countless times before.

    @ Glimmerous.Fop,

Wth la. The same teams will be there at the national finals itself too right?

Plus it’s just another chance to see them in action, learn their style etc.

I’d say you’d even be at a disadvantage if your opponents (i.e. wH) have gone for the Safra one but you haven’t.

Don’t forget the prize money to be won at WCG SAFRA and next’s week WCG Funan L4D competition.
