Singapore-based Counter-Strike 1.6 team TitaNs eSports upset US powerhouse Evil Geniuses at the conclusion of the groupstage of the fourth Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge held in Chengdu, China.
TitaNs defeated EG 16-9 on de_nuke (match details).
The win over EG leaves TitaNs on top of Group C with one win and one draw, with EG coming in second with one win and one loss. Brazilian team MIBR was third with one draw and one loss.
TitaNs had previously played MIBR to a 15-15 draw on de_inferno (match details).
The Singapore CS team will now proceed to the single-elimination quarter-finals where they will be up against Swedish team Fnatic.
Regardless of the outcome, TitaNs have already secured themselves US$1,500 in cash for being in the top eight teams of the tournament.
The prize breakdown for the Intel Extreme Masters Chengdu global challenge is listed below:
- 1st: US$15,000
- 2nd: US$7,500
- 3rd: US$5,000
- 4th: US$2,500
- 5th-8th: US$1,500
- 9th-12th: US$1,000
