Adbul Hakim “girlyluck” Mohamed Azman, a two-time World Cyber Games Singapore National Finals podium finisher, passed away on Thursday morning after fighting cancer for over a year. He was 21 years old.
Born on 5 October 1988, Hakim led an active life since he was young; he had been a footballer in primary school and joined canoeing as his CCA in secondary school. However, it was to be in gaming that Hakim was to find his calling.
Beginning in early 2006, Hakim started to play WarCraft III competitively with Clan DiScOnNeCt (Disc), eventually joining RageFaction as the Assistant Leader of their WarCraft III division.
It was the start of one of the most successful WarCraft III careers in the Singapore community, one that would see Hakim win podium finishes in local and regional competitions over the span of three years. His exploits even brought him to Moscow, Russia in 2008, where he competed in the KODE5 Global Finals.
Even after being diagnosed with cancer, WarCraft III was never far from Hakim’s mind. After taking almost a year off to recuperate, Hakim made a comeback this year that saw him returned once again to the WCG podium, placing third in the Singapore Nationals Finals.
It was this dedication and fighting spirit in the face of adversity, along with Hakim’s natural warmth and affection for the people around him, that always inspired those around him.
Hakim is survived by his parents, an elder brother and a younger brother.
