[b]SINGAPORE[/b] – Gamers Inc`Alpha took home the DotA Allstars crown, while William “Ayane06” Ten Kelvin almost made a clean sweep of the Xbox 360 game challenges at the World Cyber Games Singapore Championship 2007 PAYM League, held at the Toa Payoh Central Community Club over Saturday and Sunday.
Mr Hri Kumar Nair, Adviser to Bishan-Toa Payoh GROs and Panel of Advisers to the People’s Association Youth Movement Central Youth Council, graced the tournament finals with his presence. He was brought on a tour of the PAYM League and gave out the prizes to the winning teams and individuals.
Gamers Inc`Alpha emerged as the DotA Allstars champions after they defeated iVory` in a game lasting just under an hour. iVory` showed tremendous form in the quarter and semi-final rounds that carried on into the finals. They put up a tough fight early in the game but eventually succumbed to Gamers Inc`Alpha’s superior team work, map and lane control.
Gamers Inc`Alpha took home S$1,000 in cash for their efforts and will be seeded into the World Cyber Games 2007 Singapore National Finals as well. Runners-up iVory` won S$750 in cash while second runners-up [a.H] received S$500 in cash.
For the Xbox 360 challenges, William “Ayane06” Ten Kelvin took the top spot in three separate games: Dead or Alive 4, Guitar Hero II and Project Gotham Racing 3. Ayane06 took part in the Winning Eleven X challenge as well, but lost in the quarter-finals stage. Dimus “Star14” Choong took the top spot for the Winning Eleven X challenge instead.
The winner of each Xbox 360 game challenge will receive S$200 in cash each, while the runners-up receive S$150 and the second runners-up get S$100.
Cyber wellness programmes were also conducted alongside the league aim to get gamers to achieve a balanced lifestyle. Parents learned effective ways to mentor youths in the context of evolving gaming trends such as gaming addiction.
The People’s Association Youth Movement hopes to spread the message on the importance of healthy gaming habits through the WCG PAYM League.
