SINGAPORE – Just two months ago, ask anyone who DsD, Team AlTeRNaTiVE or XtC were and you would have gotten a blank stare.
Today, all three teams have booked themselves a spot in the top 8 of the Compaq AMD Pro-Gaming League 2007/08 Summer Season Open Category.
DsD made a name for themselves in Warcraft III and DotA Allstars in the past. They were a force to be reckoned with during the 2005 and 2006 WCG campaigns. Shortly after, DsD slipped into obscurity as their players went inactive.
Then just last month, DsD emerged from their long hibernation to upset Micronology at the finals of the NUS Lan Gaming Festival. The resulting win placed DsD firmly in the limelight again, and their movements have been followed with great interest since.
XtC and Team AlTeRNaTiVE both made a name for themselves at the World Cyber Games 2007 Singapore Championship PAYM League. XtC finished second at the Changi-Simei CC event, while Team AlTeRNaTiVE took the top spot at the Ulu Panda CC event.
Team AlTeRNaTiVE has great pedigree, with two members having previously played for Wrath*. However, XtC is still struggling to prove that their win at Changi-Simei CC was not just a fluke.
With the WCG.SG 2007 National Finals just round the corner, the CAPL 07/08 Summer Season serves as a crucial litmus test for teams.
Judging from the current results it seems likely that new faces will be making a strong impact in the WCG.SG National Finals, just like they have been at the CAPL Summer Season.
