Singapore Sword buried Sydney Underground 30-18 yesterday to be crowned champions of the Championship Gaming Series 2007 Pan-Asian Final in Kuala Lumpur.

Dead or Alive 4 representative Wilson “Tetra” Chia and FIFA 2007 representative Mohamed “Xtr3me3” Phirkan gave Singapore an early 9 point lead with their 5-2, 7-1 victories over the Sydney side respectively.

Syndey managed to close the gap to 13-11 with their Project Gotham Racing 3 star players Cam and Morpho coming in first and second, scoring 8 points and leaving Singapore in the dust with just 1.

Things quickly went downhill from there however. Singapore’s Daphne “Perpetiel” Chow put down Sydney’s “Donkey Kong” 5-1. What makes this truly astonishing is that although Perpetiel was just a last-minute stand-in and had not touched DoA since 2005, she has won virtually all her matches in the CGS Pan-Asian Final so far.

With the score standing at 18-12, with Singapore needing just 6 points to win, Singapore representatives TitaNs then smashed iMMinent in Counter-Strike: Source, racking up a score of 10-0 before iMMinent managed to take back some points. However, it was a case of too little too late as TitaNs won the match 12-6.

The win comes as the biggest for Singapore on the global e-sports scene since Tetra’s Silver Medal for Dead or Alive in the World Cyber Games 2005 Grand Finals and places Singapore firmly on the map of the global e-sports scene.

Following the Pan-Asian win, Singapore Sword will participate in the CGS 2007 World Championship to be held in Los Angeles, USA in December this year, along with Seoul Jinhwa, Sydney Underground and Wuhan Dragon.
