The champions of the 2007 GXL Season 02 Enemy Territory: Quake Wars tournament will walk away with only S$200 cash in their pockets per person after the prize pool was reduced by 75% due to a lack of participants.
At press time the ETQW page indicated that no teams had signed up, although it is unclear whether this is due to technical errors. GXL community member “IZECUBEZ” had indicated on the forums that he had problems registering his team as recently as yesterday.
The lack of participants does not come as a surprise as despite the lack of interest shown during the community polling, GXL still persisted in using ETQW as a competition game title. Only 22 people voted for ETQW compared to 103 for Battlefield 2142, the only game with substantial amount of votes that was not selected for Season 02.
GXL’s Game Master Andrei Dmitriev hinted previously that the decision to play ETQW was made by the upper management at Playworks, the company who owns the rights to organize GXL, rather than the actual GXL planning committee.
