Malaysia has been added to the list of countries offering a local Electronic Sports World Cup qualifier event at an unknown time last week, even as Singapore’s participation in the global e-sports tournament is still under negotiation.
Lowyat.net’s Multiplay reported that the Malaysia ESWC portal was added some time before last weekend, and that a Malaysian company based in Petaling Jaya would be managing the event.
There’s no official word about whether ESWC will be held in Singapore yet, but GameSync understands that Rapture Gaming is in discussions to hold the local qualifiers. The fact that Rapture Gaming has control the eswc.com.sg domain shows that they are serious about bringing the e-sports competition franchise into Singapore at least.
Making this year’s lineup for ESWC will be DotA Allstars, along with old staples such as Counter-Strike 1.6 and Warcraft III. 2008 will also be the first year the global finals will be held outside of France, where global organizer Games-Services is based. The finals will be held in USA.
