ESTC 2011: Revenant and Impunity return champions

ESTC - E-Sports Thailand Championship

StarCraft II player Marcus “Revenant” Tan and Heroes of Newerth team Impunity have returned as champions of their respective game tournaments at the E-Sports Thailand Championship 2011, held in Bangkok last weekend.

Revenant, playing under the Flash e-Sports team banner, earned for himself 50,000 THB (S$2,070), while five-man team Impunity earned for themselves 100,000 THB (S$4,140).

StarCraft II

Of the five StarCraft II players from Singapore who participated in ESTC 2011, three qualified for the playoffs: Revenant, Ian “Muse” Ang and Aloysius “Alderaan” Ang. Muse defeated Mineski’s JaBiTo 2 – 0 in the round-of-16, but was eliminated 0 – 2 by eventual runner-up RedArchon in the quarter-finals. Due to the draw of the brackets, Revenant was forced to eliminate Alderaan in the first round of the playoffs.

Revenant subsequently defeated all his opponents by 2 – 0 margins before facing RedArchon in the finals. Revenant took the two games against RedArchon but dropped the next two before winning the ace match to take the tournament. (View brackets here)

Dota

None of the Singapore teams made it to the top four at ESTC 2011. PMS Asterisk* did not make it out of the group stage, having lost all of their matches. Aeon.Dota and MYM.Dota both topped their groups, but Aeon.Dota were eliminated in the round-of-16 by Thai team Outlaw, while MYM.Dota were eliminated by Malaysian team MUFC, who eventually finished third. Another Malaysian team, Orange, placed first after defeating Thai team NEOlution in the finals.
