This year’s edition of the Evolution Championship Series — the largest fighting games tournament in the world — will feature six games, as revealed by event organiser Joey “MrWizard” Cuellar earlier today on Shoryuken.com‘s official podcast Wakeup SRK Live. As part of the Road to Evo 2012 seeding process, Singapore will host a qualifying event for the Southeast Asia region.
The six games titles are:
- King of Fighters XIII
- Mortal Kombat 9
- Soul Calibur V
- Street Fighter x Tekken
- Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, Version 2012
- Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
During the podcast, MrWizard acknowledged that the inclusion of Street Fighter x Tekken might prove to be problematic due to the gem system. Basically, gems are character-modifying addons which must be purchased for every game console used in the tournament, potentially creating substantial logistics issues. Due to this, Evo may yet modify or cancel the Street Fighter x Tekken tournament.
The Southeast Asia Evo qualifers will be held in Singapore at the Bugis Virtualand TKA arcade on 17-18 March and will be jointly organised by SCOGA and SG Finest. According to a community source, only two games will be played: Street Fighter IV has been more or less confirmed, while the second game has yet to be decided upon but the choice is reportedly between Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 or King of Fighters XIII.
The Evo 2012 main event will be held 6-8 July at Caesar’s Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
