Long before StarCraft II came out in 2010, Relic Entertainment was keeping the real-time strategy genre alive with their flagship Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War and Company of Heroes series. Relic’s publisher, THQ, has just announced that Company of Heroes 2 is in development and will be released in “early 2013”.
CoH2 will be set in the Eastern Front of World War II, featuring the Soviet Red Army against the German Axis forces, as opposed to the first game which had American and British forces fighting the Nazis in western Europe.
The game will be developed using Relic’s new Essence 3.0 engine, which is a major improvement over the Essence 2.0 engine used for Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War II.
If Relic’s past few games are anything to go by, we can expect CoH2 to pull out all the stops in the graphics department: CoH1 was one of the first games to fully utilise DirectX 10. DoWII also required pretty high system specs if you wanted to run the game at the highest settings.
Be sure to check out the official Company of Heroes website for the latest updates and screenshots.
