League of Legends team AnotherStory became Singapore’s only medalists at the World Cyber Games 2010 Grand Finals after they defeated China’s Chinahero 2-0 to clinch a bronze medal in Los Angeles, USA last Sunday.
The Singapore team’s win over Chinahero came as a surprise as AnotherStory had lost every match in the tournament up to that point. AnotherStory had gone 0-3 in the group stage and lost 0-2 to USA’s CounterLogic in the semi-final playoffs.
The team from AnotherStory is made up of the following members:
- Lianquan “amnesia” Chen
- XingLei “Chawy” Wong
- Zhi Ping “d4rkness” Lim
- Daryl “iceiceice” Koh
- Siong Chong “Opio” Teo
Each player will receives US$1,000 (S$1,300) and a Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ 3D-ready monitor for winning the bronze medal.
AnotherStory’s bronze medal, however, will not be included in Singapore’s overall medal tally as League of Legends is a promotion title and is not considered an official WCG competition title.
Singapore did not manage a podium finish in either Asphalt 5 or FIFA 10, the two other games which the country competed in.
In Asphalt 5, former gold medalist Jared “slyfoxlover” Beins and first-timer Jackson “GODZ1LLA” Tham both advanced from the group stage but were eliminated in the first round playoffs by Australia’s Charlie “Tenshii” Elliott and Russia’s Philipp “Mussuri” Mussuri.
In FIFA 10, Wen Jun “hibidi” Chiang finished third in his group with three wins and two losses, but his performance did not allow him to advance to the playoffs.
