Dota 2 Gamescom trailer unveiled

The Dota 2 Gamescom trailer has just been unveiled on the Dota 2 blog and, boy, colour me impressed. It is brilliantly done, with visual quality and production values that rival those of Blizzard’s best trailers for World of Warcraft and StarCraft II.

The cinematic trailer features a merchant hawking his wares to you, the would be hero, making veiled references to agility-based heroes (“would you be swift?”), strength-based heroes (“would you be strong?”) and intelligence-based heroes (“would you be wise?”).

Most important thing revealed in this trailer? You can still recognise the familiar heroes despite the graphical update, suggesting that Dota 2 will stick close to the tried-and-tested formula that made the original Dota Allstars so successful to date. No surprise really, since IceFrog is behind Dota 2 as well.

I’ve gotten rusty after not playing Dota for a long time, but I think these are the heroes featured in the trailer, in order of appearance: Drow Ranger, Axe, Anti-Mage, Earthshaker, Pudge, Lina Inverse, Netherdrake and Dragon Knight.

Pretty sure I missed out some, so fill in the blanks in the comments!

Lina Inverse is just simply named “Lina” now, to avoid very obvious copyright infringement with the famous anime character of the same name.
