A team of five Singaporeans will participate in the Canada Cup 2011’s Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition international 5 vs. 5 exhibition event, held on 5 and 6 November at the Sheraton Cavalier hotel in Calgary, Alberta.
News of the team’s participation first broke on the Sgfighter Facebook group on 27 September. The team will consist of:
- Kun-Xian “Xian” Ho (captain)
- Leslie Cheong
- David “Real Deal” Sim
- Ivan “Mango” Wang
- Zhenyuan “HZY” Han
The Singapore team will be going up against 7 other international teams for a share of the US$5,000 prize pool, with the champion team receiving US$3,500, the runners-up US$1,000 and the third-placed team receiving US$500. The teams from Europe, Japan, Korea, the US and Canada have confirmed their attendance, while two other teams have yet to be revealed.
According to remarks made by team captain Xian in the Canada Cup 2011 international trailer (embedded above), the Singapore team is “not sending any Yun, Yang or Fei Long” to the tournament. Xian was referring to the infamous Hong Kong trio of characters claimed by many as overpowered in comparison to the rest of the character roster in SSF4AE.
Besides the international exhibition event, the players are likely to participate in the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and SSF4AE singles events. There will also be BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2, Mortal Kombat 9, Tekken 6, Super Street Fighter 2: HD Remix and King of Fighters XIII tournaments held at the Canada Cup 2011.
More information, including the competition schedule, is available at the Canada Cup 2011 Shoryuken forums thread.
