The Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) may be heading to Singapore for its 2012/2013 season, if an announcement made by BenQ on Tuesday is accurate.
In the original announcement, BenQ said that professional StarCraft II player Manuel “Grubby” Schenkhuizen will make appearances at each of the tournament’s stops in Guangzhou, Singapore, Poland and Brazil to help promote BenQ’s gaming monitors as the company’s ambassador. Grubby is currently at Gamescom participating in IEM Cologne in Germany.
BenQ has since edited the announcement to remove the information about specific IEM tour stops, while Grubby has also done likewise for his Facebook posts.
IEM is an international tournament spanning many months and individual competitions culminating in the Global Championships. It is currently in its seventh season, featuring StarCraft II and League of Legends as tournament titles. Each of its tour stops attracts participation from top players from around the world.
If the original BenQ announcement is true, this will be the first year the tournament is stopping over in Singapore and will be the only tournament to be held in Asia outside of China.
No further details on the Singapore stop’s venue or date was given in the BenQ announcement, or on the IEM website.
BenQ is a sponsor for the current IEM season.
Update: The original article was based on the BenQ announcement and statements made by Grubby on Facebook, both of which have been revised. We have updated our article to reflect the changes accordingly.
