Evo 2011 Championship Series: Guide to SG participants

Evolution 2011

This year’s Evolution 2011 Championship Series, one of the biggest fighting game tournaments in the world, will be special because it is the first time six Singaporean participants will be taking part. They are Kun-Xian Ho, Ghim-Kee “Gackt” Eng, Leslie Cheong, Paul “VintageSoul” Ho, Zhenyuan “HZY” Han, and Kenneth “Spore” Lim.

All six of them will be taking part in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. With the exception of Gackt and HZY, all of them will also be participating in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3.

The tournament, taking place at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, will be scheduled to start on Friday, 29 July, 11pm (Singapore time), and ending on Monday, 1 August, after 12pm (Singapore time). You can view the full Evo 2011 Master Schedule here (in Las Vegas time). Remember that Singapore is 15 hours ahead of Las Vegas.

The official tournament brackets for Evo 2011 have not been released yet, but thanks to the Evo 2011 Player Check-in page, you can key in the names of our SG participants to determine which qualifying pool they are in, and the timings they are scheduled to play. Live streams

There will be several live-stream sources for this year’s Evo (the most prominent ones being the official Evo 2011 stream, and PlayStation Home for those with access to a PS3). Those without strong Internet connections at home, fear not. You can still head down to Colosseum Level 7, Bugis, Iluma, where Evo 2011 will be screened for free on their big projector screens. For more information, visit this Round1.sg news post.

However, there is no guarantee that the streams will show the specific qualifying pools and timings that our SG players are taking part in. Our best bet of catching our local players in action is to pray very hard that they reach at least the SSF4: AE quarter-finals (scheduled to start on Saturday, 11am, Singapore time), which will definitely be given more attention in the live-streams.

Good luck, Team Singapore, and get hype!

For those with Twitter, I’ve started a #SGEVO hash tag to discuss about our Singapore participants. Feel free to use it.
